How Our Damascus Is Made:
All our Damascus steel is authentic and not just acid-etched. It is crafted by combining 1095HC high carbon steel and 15N20 nickel steel. These metals are heated and folded repeatedly to create the desired 384 layers. After forging, the blade is dipped in acid, which turns the nickel layers a satin color and the high carbon layers a blackish-gray. This process reveals the distinctive Damascus pattern, exposing the layered steel. While all Damascus is acid etched to reveal the pattern, if polished highly, it appears shiny satin like other steels. Only after acid treatment do the layered patterns become visible.Once the blade is formed, the handles are hand-polished, and the edge is sharpened. The acid-burned layer on the handle is buffed off for a smooth finish, while the blade edge retains a satin finish from the acid treatment.
