After forging, the blades undergo acid etching which reveals the stunning Damascus pattern—nickel layers take on a satin finish while the high carbon steel layers become a rich blackish gray. The metal is polished to a shiny satin luster, especially on the handles, which are carefully buffed to remove the acid burn while the blade edge retains its satin finish.
