How Our Damascus Is Made:
All our Damascus blades are genuine and not just acid-etched. Damascus steel is crafted by combining 1095HC and 15N20 nickel carbon steels. These are heated and folded repeatedly to achieve the desired layers — ours have 384 layers. After forging, the blade is dipped in acid, which turns the nickel satin-colored and the high carbon steel blackish gray. This process exposes the layers, creating the beautiful and unique Damascus pattern.
Note: All Damascus steel is acid-etched to reveal the layers. If polished highly, the metal appears shiny satin like other steels. The acid burn on the blade’s sides highlights the layered pattern.
After forging, we high polish the handles and sharpen the blade edges. The high polish buffs off the acid layer on the handle, while the blade edge remains satin due to acid etching.
